Artificial Intelligence for Soldiers 2025: Enhancing AI Readiness for the U.S. Army

Abstract:

This report summarizes the second iteration of the “Artificial Intelligence for Soldiers” course, conducted by ARL in April 2025. Building on the success of the inaugural 2024 course, this year’s program was condensed to 1 week while retaining a strong emphasis on equipping Soldiers with practical artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) knowledge and skills. The report highlights key content areas, participant ranks, and most importantly, feedback received. Notable adjustments made based on the previous year’s recommendations include streamlining AI/ML fundamentals, emphasizing capstone projects, inviting senior leaders to speak everyday, and various logistics changes. Overall, the 2025 course received positive feedback, with participants reporting increased AI/ML understanding and relevance to future military operations. The report concludes with insights for continuous improvement, aiming to further enhance the course’s impact in cultivating a more AI-ready Army.
