Abstract:A set of very precise tools and techniques are required to manufacture microscale features within the ARL Specialty Electronic Materials and Sensors Cleanroom. The two-photon polymerization (2PP) process is used to fabricate structures of about 220 nm in resolution, which is smaller than the thickness of a human hair. Using the Nanoscribe Photonic Professional GT 3D printer, the 2PP process can be used to manufacture complex, yet small, structures. These structures are made with the IP-S photoresist that, after printing, can be pyrolyzed to create a carbonized, conductive structure used to make bioelectrodes. The introduction of metal additives into the IP-S photoresist is also investigated with the goal of increasing the conductivity of such structures.
