Abstract:Using ultrafast laser techniques, we observe the nonlinear optical responses associated with the upconversion of light in 2D layered materials (2DLM). This report presents our progress in the development of sum-frequency generation and four-wave mixing techniques for measuring the nonlinear optical effects in monolayers of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), tungsten disulfide (WS2), and mono- and bilayers of graphene using near-infrared (NIR) laser pulses. The upconversion of the NIR laser wavelengths due to laser material interactions is reported to demonstrate the experimental capabilities used in the investigation of 2DLMs.
