Abstract:

This report documents the DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory Lossy Intelligent Network Traffic Squeezer (LINTS). LINTS is a refinement of the previous Netcomp tool. This report will compare the efficiency and effectiveness of LINTS against the Netcomp. LINTS implements several different compression strategies to compress the network traffic which must be transmitted from the network intrusion detection sensor and the central analysis servers in a network intrusion detection application. This report will examine the effects of compressing several different data sets of network traffic with each of these strategies. As a final test two data sets will be divided into two pieces. One piece will be use to adjust the LINTS parameters for a blind test with the other pieces of the data set.
