Evaluation of Aerotron AV as a Maintenance Cleaner Prior to Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI)

Abstract:

The U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command’s Environmental Division (G-4) requested that ARL’s Biology, Materials, and Manufacturing Sciences Division evaluate Aerotron AV as a maintenance cleaning solvent for use prior to fluorescent penetrant inspection. The results demonstrated that the test product outperformed the standard comparative, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK). Aerotron AV should now be reviewed by the final approval authority for use in the maintenance and overhaul processes at Army depots and airfields.
