Abstract:

We developed a Modular Trigger Response System that allows Soldiers to customize the deployment of human and system resources according to mission factors, platoon-specific operating procedures, and personal preference. We document the developmental process to date, including the following: the initial design of the software’s back end, the design of a front end utilizing a trigger-action programming approach to end-user development, and the use of this software in a simulation experiment. Subsequently, we describe the redesign of the software—based on experiment results and Soldier feedback—the use of the software in another simulation experiment, and feedback from that experiment. Finally, we discuss our latest work in using large language models to expand the software capability to include voice input. Documentation for the software (back end, schema, and front end) are included in the appendixes.
