Language Model Agents: Current and Future Trends

Abstract:

The field of language model (LM)-powered agents has grown exponentially in the last few years thanks to the rapid development of LMs that have both a vast amount of world knowledge and are fine-tuned to request tools, process external data, and fluently write short scripts in several programming languages (e.g., Python). One major goal is for agents to run with little or no supervision for hours to days at a time without human intervention to accomplish human-specified project requirements. We look at where the technology is today and where it needs to go to achieve this goal.
