Abstract:

This special report documents the Spring 2026 session of the Artificial Intelligence for Soldiers strategic broadening seminar, the third annual iteration of a 1-week, in-person course delivered by DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory to provide mid-career Army personnel with a practical, non-coding foundation in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for military decision-making. Thirty-one officers, warrant officers, and noncommissioned officers from nine major commands completed instruction, demonstrations, laboratory engagements, and team capstone projects applying AI/ML concepts to military challenges. Among post-course survey respondents, mean ratings across 10 evaluation statements ranged from 4.56 to 4.89 on a 5-point scale, with no negative ratings. Qualitative feedback indicated expanded understanding of AI capabilities, limitations, responsible use, and job-relevant applications. The seminar equips Army leaders to recognize and evaluate AI-enabled opportunities, engage technical experts more effectively, and bring AI literacy back to their formations.
